Sprint Non Championship Classes

Cadet Raket

  • Drivers aged 6 years and under 11 years.

  • Special cadet chassis which is a smaller version of the full size chassis

  • Raket 85 engine to KartSport New Zealand specs.

  • This class is eligible for club days only.

  • Minimum weight of kart and driver 88kg

  • Pump petrol only

  • Front wheel brakes not permitted

  • Original Radne clutch compulsory

  • KartSport New Zealand contracted tyres only

  • The purpose of this class is to teach young people to drive karts of restricted performance in a competitive but controlled manner.

Junior Clubsport LO206

  • Drivers with a Junior ClubSport Licence, minimum age 11 years, are also eligible to compete in this class. (subject to trial until 31-5-17) 

  • Eligible engine: Briggs & Stratton LO206 to KartSport New Zealand specs.

  • MAW 137kg

  • Fuel: Pump petrol 

  • Oil: Amsoil Briggs & Stratton synthetic 4T Racing Oil only

  • Brakes: Front wheel brakes not permitted.

  • Tyre restricted class.

  • Rear rims for Dry tyres: 205mm (8 inch nominal) wide minimum

  • Clutch: Obligatory. Must be the Hilliard Inferno Flame to KartSport New Zealand specs

  • Telemetry: No data acquisition systems or telemetry devices other than rev counter and or lap timer with or without memory. No temperature measuring or recording devices allowed.

  • Eligible for Group F events– Club Day competition only.

  • Not to be raced in conjunction with Junior 100cc Yamaha, Formula Junior, Rotax Max Junior or KF3 class.

  • Rules for this class are under the control of KartSport New Zealand Executive. The KartSport New Zealand Executive reserves the right to alter the class specifications to ensure fairness of competition, safety and the wishes of the competitors. Only written submissions from Clubs will be accepted for changes, with the Executive acting on them if considered necessary.

Formula Junior

  • Drivers aged 12 years and under 17 years

  • Chassis to KartSport New Zealand specs

  • Eligible engines are :-

    • KF3 variant of a KF4 engine as homologated by the CIK - CIK homologated clutch compulsory. Deleted from 1-1-17.

    • Rotax FR125 Max Junior fitted with an engine clutch to the manufacturers specifications.

  • Minimum weight of kart and driver is 145kg

  • Side pods, nose cone and front console bodywork compulsory

  • Pump petrol only

  • KartSport New Zealand contracted tyres only

This is a Non-Championship class except for NZ Schools and NZ Dirt Championship for which Championship status is recognised.

KF3

  • Drivers aged 12 years and under 17 years

  • Chassis to KartSport New Zealand specs

  • Eligible engine is the KF3 variant of a KF4 engine as homologated by the CIK

  • Minimum weight of kart and driver 145kg

  • Minimum dry weight (without fuel) of kart 75kg

  • CIK homologated clutch compulsory

  • Pump petrol only

  • KartSport New Zealand contracted tyres only

  • This is the Junior CIK International class for top competitors in New Zealand.

  •  Class deleted from 1-1-17.

Junior Clubsport 120

  • Maximum licence rating ‘Tier 2’.

  • Drivers with a Junior ClubSport Licence, minimum age 11 years, are also eligible to compete in this class. (subject to trial until 31-5-17) 

  • Eligible engine: Raket 120 to KartSport New Zealand specs.

  • MAW 133kg

  • Fuel: Pump petrol

  • Brakes: Front wheel brakes not permitted.

  • KartSport New Zealand contracted tyres only 

  • Clutch: Obligatory. Must be the clutch as originally supplied with the Raket 120 engine.

  • Chassis: Exactly as per KartSport New Zealand chassis sprint unless otherwise specified.

  • Eligible for Group F event – Club Day competition only.

  • Not to be raced in conjunction with Formula Junior or KF3 class

  • Telemetry: No data acquisition systems or telemetry devices other than rev counter and or lap timer with or without memory. No temperature measuring or recording devices allowed.

100cc Yamaha Club Class

  • Drivers aged 15 years and over

  • Maximum licence rating 'Tier 2'

  • Chassis to KartSport New Zealand specs

  • Yamaha KT100 piston port 100cc 2 stroke engine to KartSport New Zealand specs

  • Full size muffler

  • Limited slip clutch optional

  • Minimum weight of kart and driver 145kg

  • Pump petrol only

  • Front wheel brakes not permitted

  • KartSport New Zealand contracted tyres only

This is a Senior class for all non championship Club racing in NZ.

CLUBSPORT LO206 LIGHT

  • Eligible engine: Briggs & Stratton LO206 to KartSport New Zealand specs.

  • MAW 157kg  NOTE: Clubs can choose to run a single weight class at 167kg.

  • Fuel: Pump petrol  

  • Oil: Amsoil Briggs & Stratton synthetic 4T Racing Oil only.

  • Brakes: Front wheel brakes not permitted.

  • Tyre restricted class.

  • Rear rims for Dry tyres: 205mm (8 inch nominal) wide minimum.

KZ2 Masters

  • Also a Challenge Cup class at the CIK Trophy of NZ.

  • 125cc reed valve engine as homologated by the CIK for the KZ2 class with the homologated gearbox ratios, homologated exhaust and a CIK homologated inlet silencer for the respective engine.

  • MAW: 186 kg.

  • Fuel: Pump petrol

  • Tyre restricted class.

  • Eligible age: 40 years and over

KZ2 Restricted

  • For Rounds of the ProKart Series only.

  • 125cc reed valve engine as homologated by the CIK for the KZ2 class with the homologated gearbox ratios, homologated exhaust and a CIK homologated inlet silencer for the respective engine.

  • Restricted carburettor components

  • Spec axle

  • MAW: 186 kg.

  • Fuel: Pump petrol

  • Tyre restricted class.

  • Maximum Licence rating Tier 2 unless over 30 years of age

Rotax DD2

  • Eligible engine: Bombardier Rotax 125 Max DD2 to KartSport New Zealand specs

  • MAW 173kg

  • Clutch:Obligatory Must be original Rotax clutch (Rule M2)

  • Fuel: Pump petrol (Rule L4.1)

  • Tyre restricted class:Dry: Mojo D3 Prime Z (front 32/P/16, rear 31/P/16) Wet Mojo W2 (front 30/P/16, rear 29/P/16)

  • Brakes: operating on front and rear wheels mandatory.

  • No carbon fibre/kevlar nor composite materials are permitted except for seat and undertray.

  • Rotax rear tyre protection system must be fitted (ref Rule K1.6)

  • Chassis: 125-MAX-DD 2 Specific

Rotax DD2 Masters

  • For Rounds of the NZRMC only

  • Masters minimum age as set by Rotax.

  • Eligible engine: Bombardier Rotax 125 Max DD2 to KartSport New Zealand specs

  • MAW 180kg.

  • Clutch: Obligatory Must be original Rotax clutch (Rule M2)

  • Fuel: Pump petrol (Rule L4.1)

  • Tyre restricted class: Dry: Mojo D3 Prime Z (front 32/P/16, rear 31/P/16) Wet: Mojo W2 (front 30/P/16, rear 29/P/16)

  • Brakes: operating on front and rear wheels mandatory.

  • No carbon fibre/kevlar nor composite materials are permitted except for seat and undertray.

  • Rotax rear tyre protection system must be fitted (ref Rule K1.6)

  • Chassis: 125-MAX-DD 2 specific

Clubsport 120

  • Drivers aged 15 years and over

  • Maximum licence rating 'Tier 2'

  • Chassis to KartSport New Zealand specs

  • Raket 120 engine to KartSport New Zealand specs

  • Minimum weight of kart and driver 160kg

  • Pump petrol only

  • Front wheel brakes not permitted

  • KartSport New Zealand contracted tyres only

  • Clutch compulsory

  • Sidepods, nose cone and front console compulsory.

This is a special entry level Senior class for non championship Club racing in NZ.

SuperKart Non Championship Class

Junior 100cc Yamaha

  • Drivers aged minimum 14 years and under 17

  • Minimum 'A' rated sprint licence required

  • Normal sprint kart chassis to KartSport New Zealand specs

  • Yamaha KT100 piston port 100cc 2 stroke engine to KartSport New Zealand specs

  • Clutch compulsory

  • Minimum weight of kart and driver 135kg

  • Pump petrol only

  • KartSport New Zealand contracted tyres only

  • No special body work permitted - must comply with sprint chassis rules

This is a special Junior 100cc class for non championship SuperKart competition in NZ.

ROTAX DD2

  • Eligible engine: Bombardier Rotax 125 Max DD2 to KartSport New Zealand specs.

  • MAW: 173kg.

  • Clutch: Obligatory Must be original Rotax Clutch 

  • Primary drive gear ratios unrestricted.

  • Fuel: Pump petrol 

  • Tyre restricted class: Dry: Mojo D3 Prime Z (front 32/P/16, rear 31/P/16) Wet Mojo W2 (front 30/P16, rear 29/P/16)

  • The front and rear wheels must have a minimum of three bead locks fitted on the outside of each rim.

  • Brakes: Operating on front and rear wheels mandatory.

  • Karts must comply with sprint chassis rules. No semi laydown seats allowed. No seat may be at less than 45 degrees measured to the horizontal.

  • No bubbles or nose spoilers permitted. CIK-FIA homologated body work and mounting bars only.

  • Rotax rear protection system must be fitted.

  • Chassis: 125-MAX-DD2- specific

  • No carbon fibre/kevlar nor composite materials are permitted except for seat and undertray.

  • Class has trial status only. Status to be reviewed by the Executive by 26-8-16.

 This is a new Senior class for non championship SuperKart competition in NZ.
