Cadet/Junior Restricted Classes Review Project

Update #3      6-3-13

Further to Update #2 published on 18-1-13 we can now provide a further details on progress to date and the next steps.

Test engines and comprehensive technical documentation has now been received from four of the five manufacturers formally approached regarding this project. The four are:

    Iame, Italy
    PRD, Australia
    Radne, Sweden
    Vortex, Italy
    Note: Comer, Italy withdrew.

Each manufacturer has provided two identical test engines together with components to change the configuration of the engines from Cadet to Junior Restricted configuration (and vice versa). These components consist of various combinations of exhaust header and/or carburettor, changes which would take any competent mechanic no more than 15 minutes to change back and forth.

The engines are currently being checked and measured against the supplied specifications. They will then be run in and baseline power and tuning information gained through dyno testing.

Following this all engines will be tested on track in both configurations. The track testing is designed to determine usability, drivability, ease of tuning, parity, etc rather than directly comparing the performance of one engine brand versus the others.

Clarification of Supplier-Distributor Arrangements
Kartsport New Zealand is currently dealing direct with the respective engine manufacturers to hasten and enhance the evaluation process and ensure manufacturer support. For engine brands with a current local agent/distributor the local agent/distributor has been party to communication from and to their respective engine manufacturer. Ultimate on-going distribution of the engine brand selected and contracted will however be handled by one (or more) distributor(s) in New Zealand who will be responsible for supply, customer care, spare parts and warranty issues. (IE: A similar process and contracting arrangement to that used for our restricted tyre contracts.)
