Members of New Zealand's KartSport fraternity got together with one of the sport's sponsors, Bayley's Commercial, in Taranaki recently to give young Make-A-Wish New Zealand wish recipient Jakob, a day to remember.Make a wish Truck 1.jpg

Make-A-Wish New Zealand is a charity which grants special wishes to children between 3 and 17 years of age with life-threatening medical conditions. Bayley's Commercial sponsors the annual Wellington Provincial Karting Association (WPKA) Goldstar series and is an Elite Partner of Make-A-Wish New Zealand.

Jakob, or Jake as he is known to family and friends, is from New Plymouth and has Glutaric Aciduria Type 1 (a rare metabolic condition) and Cerebral Palsy.

The KartSport Taranaki club hosted the Bayleys WPKA Championships at Todd Energy Raceway - at nearby Waitara - on Sunday June 05.

Jake was invited to join in the fun, which started with a ride in a massive truck, and included a ride around the track in a special two-seater kart provided by Naki Nitro and driven by Campbell Jamieson.Make a wish Kart track 4.jpg

During the day Jake also got to spend time with some of the drivers and their families, got up close to the action in the pit shute, and was invited to wave the chequered flag to end one of the races.

W.P.K.A President Martin Hunt said he would like to acknowledge the effort put into making Jake's day a special one by the Taranaki club and all participants of the W.P.K.A Championship.

"Feedback from competitors and families has been extremely positive and all parties agree that this is something we should do more of. It has been a real privilege to be able to partner with Bayleys Commercial and assist in a small way with their role as an elite partner to Make-A-Wish New Zealand."

"Special thanks must go to KartSport Taranaki and specifically Lauren Thompson, who rallied around the local community and received some magnificent contributions from companies and individuals such as McCurdy Engineering, Top StitchMake a wish Kart track 7.jpg Branding Solutions, Lisa Taylor Photography, Event Cinemas, The Devon Hotel, Hydraulink Taranaki, Naki Nitro and Karts and Parts Manawatu."
