It has been 21 years since Kartsport Southland driver Stephen Monaghan has claimed an Enduro title in Karting but it was worth the wait as he teamed up with fifteen year old Braydon Shuttleworth to claim the Yamaha KT100 class at the 2 hour enduro held at Invercargill Oil Shop Kart Raceway on Saturday evening. southland enduro 12 (36).jpg

The pairing managed 192 laps in the 2 hour period, 7 laps clear of their nearest competition. It was also reason to celebrate for Shuttleworth as this was his first ever senior race after making the move up from the junior ranks. The pairing also claimed second overall in the 2 hour open enduro.  Riverton siblings Ethan and Travis Anderson secured second in the Yamaha class and Isaiah and Jeremiah Smith, who won the event last year, claimed third.

In the Open 2 hour enduro the Dunedin team of Kerry Bowen, Richard Bethune and Tony Duthie dominated in their Rotax DD2 kart, claiming top spot from the Shuttleworth / Monaghan combination second and Anderson brothers third overall. The Bowen / Bethune / Duthie  combination managed 199 laps in the 2 hour period and they are looking at making it back to back wins as they have also entered the Kartsport Dunedin Enduro.

In the support classes Jordan Michels won the Junior Yamaha 30 minute enduro from Brock Wills. Larni Farquharson dominated the Junior Restricted race after mechanical issues hindered Rebekah Michels race, eventually winning the race by a massive 17 laps. In the Cadet class Reuben Adams of Christchurch was unstoppable taking a 2 lap victory from Dunedin’s Josh Bethune and Corey Smith from Southland also getting on the podium in third.

Kartsport Southland has one race meeting left for the 2012 season, on December 16, when it hosts the Best Pairs event.
