SMITH'S FINE FORM CONTINUES

Riversdale's Jayde Smith's run of fine form continued at Kartsport Southland's club day held in Invercargill on Sunday. Smith had a solidsouthland keast.jpg finish at the recent South Island Championship in Dunedin, pipped at the post and finishing sixth, and top Southlander in the extremely competitive Cadet class. Smith dominated a good field of Cadets competing at Invercargill Oil Shop Kart Raceway by winning all five races with ease. In fact Smiths biggest competition came from his younger brother Corey who is finding some good speed himself, finishing second overall and Wintons Luca Burns third.

Larni Farquharson celebrated her first overall victory in the Junior Restricted class by  holding off Zac Hamilton, despite Hamilton winning race two and the final, Tiffany Allen of Alexandra claimed the remaining spot on the podium.

In Junior Yamaha it was a dominant day for Jordan Michels winning all five races from Braydon Shuttleworth and Brock Wills third. Wills was the big improver for the day, starting the day well off the pace but closing that gap considerably in later races, and proving himself to be a driver to watch out for in the near future.

George Keast, who was robbed of the South Island title a couple of weeks back, wasnt going to be stopped on his home track, comfortably winning the Senior Yamaha Heavy class from Michael Smith, winning all five races, as did Jamie Conroy in the Yamaha Lights, but not without a decent fight with Brenley Marshall who was very fast in a kart he usually dosent drive, Marshall claimed second with Ethan Anderson third.

The final class of the weekend was the Open class, Jason Johnstone in his gearbox kart had far too much grunt for the rest of the field, he managed to drive away with four race wins, second was Kerry Bowen of Dunedin and third Paul Ritchie of Queenstown.

Kartsport Southland is back on track November 24th with a twilight enduro, with the feature race being a two hour endurance race for seniors.
