Anisy the big Winner at South Island SuperKart Champs

Greymouth's Regan Anisy was the big winner at this year's KartSport New Zealand Farringtons Tavern South Island SuperKart Championships & Grands Prix meeting at Christchurch's Powerbuilt Tools Raceway at Ruapuna Park on Saturday 13th September 2008.

With Nigel Sheppard out before the meeting even started after blowing an engine in practice, and favourite Paul Dunlop having motor problems of his own on the day it was left to Anisy to claim both the International class and SuperKart Grand Prix titles, the former from Christchurch drivers Matt Moore and Grant Lucas, the latter from Lucas and Matt Williams.

Williams also dominated the four heats in the 125cc Rotax Light class claiming the 2008 South Island title from Scott Waller, Alex Bower and recent Junior graduate Ben Webb.

Simon Hunter, meanwhile, won 125cc Rotax Max Heavy, the class which produced one of the best races of the day.

It was the first heat with Murray Press going for the win and Jonathan Hague, Mike Pulley and Darryl Hewitt in close pursuit. Early on Simon Hunter had his work cut out and it took him two laps of the five to catch the front group. It was all on from that point however with the lead swapping five or six times a lap.

As they came onto the finish straight there were three drivers, Simon Hunter, Murray Press and Jonathan Hague, fighting for first place, with just a tenth of a second separating them, the nod going to Press.

Simon Hunter took out the next three heats and with them the Heavy class title, though he was always kept honest by Press, Hague, Mike Pulley and Daryl Hewitt.

With only two International class SuperKarts running the organisors ran these karts from the front of the 125cc Rotax Grand Prix.

At the start Regan Anisey and Grant Lucas took off with drivers in the Rotax class battling away behind. Matt Williams eventually prevailed in 125cc Rotax Max Light from Simon Hunter and Scott Waller, Jonathan Hague in 125cc Rotax Max Heavy from Stephen Child and Murray Press.

The club is indebted to Shane Pooley (Repetitive Fabrication Specialists) for the very generous sponsorship.
