Kartsport Schools' Titles go to the South Island this Year

   

KartSport New Zealand's Eaton Fluid Power-sponsored 2008 Schools' Championship titles have gone to South Island schools this year with Chris Cox and Andrew Errington winning the Secondary Schools' title for Christchurch's St Andrews College and Liam Young and Cassidy Mowat taking out the Primary and Intermediate one for Dunedin's Wakari Primary School and Kaikorai Valley College.

Class-wise reigning New Zealand Junior 100cc Yamaha champion Chris Cox won Junior 100cc Yamaha and finished second in Formula Junior, while schoolmate Andrew Errington won 125cc Rotax Max Light.

While in the Junior classes Liam Young finished second in Cadet and Cassidy Mowat finished third in Junior Restricted 100cc Yamaha.

Best individual performance across the classes came from Invercargill's Jamie Conroy (James Hargest College) who won four out of five heat races to claim the Senior 100cc Yamaha Light title from top local drivers Morgan Fraser (Kaikorai Valley College) who finished second and Alex Spenceley (Logan Park High School) who finished third.

Best performance from a member of the host club, the Dunedin Kart Club, was second in class shared by Morgan Fraser and Liam Young.

Of the karters who traveled the furtherest, the best performance came from Josh Drysdale (Newbury School, Manawatu) who won the Junior Restricted 100cc Yamaha title from Scott Manson (Chrinswood School, Christchurch) and Cassidy Mowat.

The other individual class title went to James Penrose (North Loburn School, North Canterbury) who won Formula Junior from Chris Cox and Tom Alexander (St Thomas of Canterbury, Christchurch)

Most closely fought class over the two days was the Cadet class for drivers aged six to 12 years, where there were four different winners out of the five heat races, with the class title going to Jordan McDonnell (Windsor School, Christchurch) from Liam Young and Ryan Yardley (Russley School, Christchurch).

This year's sixth annual KartSport New Zealand National Schools' Championship was sponsored by Eaton Fluid Power and hosted by the Dunedin Kart Club and Mosgiel's Taieri College at the club's Silverstream Raceway this weekend.

Over 70 karters from 42 different schools from across the country made the trip to Dunedin where they enjoyed two full days of close and exciting racing in crisp, dry conditions.
