SuperKart Series - Round 1 Manfield

There were a total of 31 entries for the first round of the Superkart series at Manfield on July 6th 2008.

After some bad weather and some long trips for those north of Palmerston North due to the rain, hail, snow and everything else mother nature could throw at us it was a very successful event.

Thanks for making a huge effort to make the trip and enjoy a  great days racing .

Race day dawned a nice fine day with a cold wind still around and a temperature of around 6 degrees in the morning and it only just got to double figures if you were out of the cold wind.

Practice/Qualifying  saw a mostly dry track with just a couple of wet patches to keep you on your toes.

Qualifying results overall made a interesting mix in classes

1st overall in a 125 KZ2 Ross Tait  1min 16.160 secs

2nd Martin Weiss in a 250cc National  1min 16.789 secs

3rd David Munro in his 125 National.  1min 17.097 secs

It was great to see some new faces trying Superkarting on mighty Manfeild for the first time and some well seasoned faces returning to the seat again.

I can only give a brief view of my class, 125 National, but welcome anyone else adding a report on their class.

Just forward a report to myself, Ross Tait, and I will get them out to everyone .

Qualifying for 125 National ended up 1st Ross Tait  1min 16.160 secs, 2nd David Munro 1min 17.097 secs, 3rd Stuart Sowersby 1min 19.500 secs, 4th Tom Curran 1min 19.929 secs.

Race 1 saw a dry track and new Superkart driver David Munro setting a good pace with myself and the lead changing many times during the race but David overshot a few corners (different driving style this superkarting !!) and had a small off at the hairpin which made the final lap a lot easier and  the win to myself.

David managing to recover well to take second with Tom Curran taking 3rd place. Most of us 125's beating a few 250's on the way.

Race 2 David and myself once again having another good race and with some lapped traffic on the final turn made the run to the line close to say the least and David taking the win by a mere 0.010 secs over Ross Tait. 3rd place was Stuart Sowersby.

Race 3 and after being passed by a couple of International Karts I manage to break clear of them and pull out some clean fast laps to take a comfortable 22sec win.

2nd place was Stuart Sowersby and a great 3rd place by new Superkart Driver Robert Darrock.

Unfortunately Tom Curran had a engine issue with a resulted hole in the piston I believe (Hope you will be back for 3rd August ??).

Overall from reports I have had  everyone had a great days racing and they are looking forward to Round 2 again at mighty Manfield on August 3rd, lets hope a little warmer !!.

Round 2 entry form and Regs will be out this week to you all and once again spread the word and PLEASE PRE ENTER BEFORE THE MEETING SO WE CAN ALL GO RACING A LOT EASIER.

Thanks to all the officials that allow us to actually go racing.

Round 3 will be at Taupo on the 21st September  so put this one in your diaries now !!!

Also anyone that needs info on anything don't hesitate to ask and we will try and help.

Regards, Ross Tait.
