Top Half Series 2009 - Round 3

Round 3 of the 2009 Top Half Series was held on a brilliant winters day at Hamilton on July 26th

Overall, the Cadet standings to date remained the same with Chelsea Herbert holding off  Alex Edwards & Matthew Podjursky.  On the day, however, it was Campbell Joyes who took the honours and as a result made a huge improvement on his overall placing.

Junior Restricted saw much the same, with the leading overall drivers consolidating positions.  Maddie Wise, the winner of Round 3 will be kicking himself that he missed Round 1.  Wise won the day from the Mt Wellington duo of CJ Sinclair & Joel Herbert.

Overall, Stephen Appleton still holds the advantage over Sinclair & Whangarei’s Thomas McLean has moved up to third.

Junior Yamaha, true to form, is one of the closest battles.  Winning Round 3 was Paul Blomqvist which moved him up a half dozen places in the overall standings.  Daniel Kinsman now just pips Daniel Colville in the overall points so a lot will depend on performances at the final round.

Formula Junior NZ#1 Arie Hutton joined the Top Half series at Hamilton and took the days win with a clean sweep from series leader Daniel Connor & Aaron Wilson.

Another driver to join the series at this round was Yamaha Lights winner Mat Kinsman, taking the win from David Meszaros & John van Bommel.  Meszaros now takes the series overall lead with the narrowest of margins from van Bommel with Tyler Richardson holding third.

Darren Aislabie made it another round win in Yamaha Heavy; unfortunately he’s out of the running for overall honours due to not contesting Round 1.  This class has had the most changes in the overall standings to date; notably Todd Sherley moving up to second overall behind Shane Hodgson.  If this is an indication of what is to happen at the final round it wouldn’t be advisable to place any bets.

Rotax Light overall had a shake up at Round 3 with Kane Taylor & Paul Cameron fronting up for a huge on-track battle.  Taylor prevailed with the days win from Cameron with John van Bommel taking third and retaining his lead overall.

Brad Tyrrell again proved his class in the Rotax Heavy class, winning the day from Aarron Cunningham & David Waldmeyer and retaining his series points lead from these same two drivers.

In The Great Clash Of The Clubs, after two rounds Rotorua/Taupo is leading the points tally from Mt Wellington and Bay of Plenty.

The final round of the 2009 Top Half Series is to be held at Bay of Plenty on Sunday August 16th.
