Top Half Series 2010 - Round 3 - Tokoroa

If gumboots can be considered a fashion statement then the fashion capital on Sunday June 20th was Round 3 of the Top Half Series at Tokoroa.

They (gumboots) came in all sizes and a multitude of colours; but all were muddied by days end due to the torrential rain that eased to a steady downpour for most of the day.

Crowned water baby of the day would be Cadet driver Matt Podjursky; totally untouchable in all races taking 5 wins from 5 starts & substantially extending his series lead.  Thomas Ingram finished second for the day with Taylor Harte third; Harte moving up to second place overall.

Junior Restricted saw Whangarei’s Thomas McLean to the fore once again winning the day & further extending his overall series lead.  Thomas Joyes, who drove well all day, finished second with Maddie Wise in third.

Rhys Tinney, despite a couple of issues, had the measure of the Junior Yamaha field taking the days win from Reid Harker who had tracked him closely all day.  Third place went to Nick Carpenter & it is these three heading the overall points standings.

Formula Junior was a mixed bag of results through the heats but this was the class that proved consistency is the key.  Auckland’s Aaron Wilson took pole position for the start of the final & led start to finish taking the days win on his way.  It was an exciting battle on track in the final between series leader CJ Sinclair & Jamie Lane with the days overall result dependant on each drivers placing in the final.  Lane prevailed, taking second place on track with Sinclair third.  Sinclair still retains his series lead from Wilson with Luke Dobbs in third.

Yamaha Light, as always, provided close racing.  Daniel Kinsman, with no finishes outside the top three, took the days win & moved ahead of Ryan Urban in the overall standings.  Urban finished second for the day from local David Mezaros with Matthew Bufton fourth.

Former national champion Paul Cameron came out to play in the rain & Rotax Light & despite not winning a race he took the days honours from Kane Taylor in second & Daniel Connor third.

Connor has now moved up to lead the series narrowly from Matthew Bufton & Mason Armstrong; Armstrong having had a solid performance at this round.

Another water baby was Rotax Heavy’s Aarron Cunningham who achieved five wins from five starts to take the round win.  Daniel Sayles & Cameron Dennis, finishing second & third respectively, were drivers that also coped well with the conditions.  Cunningham now heads into the final round with the overall points lead ahead of Garry Cullum & Garry Claxton.

After a win at this round Melissa Urban has now sneaked ahead of Tony Chambers in the overall standings.  Urban having had a consistent day at Tokoroa.  Points are close between these two & will make for an exciting final round.
