Highly Competitive Supreme Kart Supplies WPKA Champs

Kartsport Wellington hosted the highly competitive 2011 Supreme Kart Supplies WPKA Champs over Queens Birthday weekend with $10,000 cash given back to series entrants with a further $6,000 in prizes.

The level of competitiveness was apparent throughout the day with 24 heat winners in the 8 classes contested. Commentator Mike Wilson couldn’t remember the last time he’d seen so many passes in one day’s competition.

Pretty uncomfortable conditions greeted the 73 entrants at Kaitokes CRC Raceway on June 5th. The track surface remained reasonably free of standing water even though heavy rain poured down virtually all day.

The Open and Yamaha Heavy classes were dominated by Wellington’s (KSW) Karl Wilson and Hawkes Bay’s (KSHB) Zach Zaloum but neither driver had it all their own way.

Other class winners were Maddy Wise (KSHB), Junior Yamaha; Kaleb Ngatoa Manawatu (KSM), Cadets: Tracey Neilsen (KSM), Clubsport 120; Matt Podjursky Taranaki (KST), Junior Restricted; Brendon Hart (KSM), Rotax Max and Brad Still (KST), Yamaha Light.

The Grand Prix’s completed the program and the winners were Aaron Marr (KST) in Junior Yamaha; Kaleb Ngatoa , Cadets; and Matt Podjursky, Junior Restricted. Jono Pearson (KSHB) won the all-in Champion of Champions GP. The Masters section was won by Paul Campbell (KSW) and first Yamaha went to Sam Sarcich (KSW).

The final award for the day was the President’s Cup for best performed team. Kartsport Manawatu graciously accepted the trophy with hardly any derision from the other clubs present.

Having completed the days prize giving the trophies for the Supreme Kart Supplies 2010-11 Gold Star Series were distributed among the winners.

This was followed by the $10,000 prize draw for competitors who had completed 4 rounds and the Championship meeting. With over $6,000 already distributed to entrants at the various rounds the total fund available exceeded last year’s total. So let’s make the 2011-12 Gold Star Series bigger and better by firstly, supporting our sponsors, then running in the series and finally by all getting some loot!

Kartsport Wellington wishes to thank the class sponsors for the day, MIR Racewear, Typeface, Money Works and Business Knowledge.

Maddie Wise

A thank you also to the full series sponsors that made it all happen especially Supreme Kart Supplies, Right Karts, MIR Racewear, Lascom Motorsport, Turbo Traders, Manawatu Toyota, Kiwi Karts, and Napier Collision Repair Centre.
