KartSport New Zealand is pleased to announce a trial regarding a change in format for the National Schools Championship will be taking place as part of the 2024 edition to be held by KartSport Nelson.

Held over the weekend of July 13th & 14th, the format trial will see the event run under a ‘CIK’ style format. After considering a proposal from KartSport Nelson to extend racing over two days (to give travelling competitors more racing), the KSNZ Board also reviewed the most recent editions of the event to seek further improvements.

The following has been agreed for the 2024 trial:

• The event is to be held over two competition days, to make the most for those travelling.
• The format to be adjusted to: Qualifying, 3 heats, pre-final and final – points from all races counting (similar to City of Sails events of the past)
• Fine tuning of the format to be decided in consultation with the competitions/permit department and advised in the Supplementary Regulations.

Based on feedback over several years, especially around incidents and the weather often faced at this time of the year, it is felt the trial will offer a fantastic opportunity to consider the best way forward for the event in 2025 and beyond.
