KARTSPORT NEW ZEALAND ANNOUNCES FOUR YEARS OF MAJOR EVENTS

For the first time, KartSport New Zealand is able to announce the host venues for the next four years of major championship karting events.

Joining the previously announced 2026 and 2027 championships, following interest from clubs, the 2028 and 2029 events have now been allocated by the KartSport New Zealand Board and are locked in, with just two events in 2029 TBC.

For 2028, the National Sprint Championship heads back to Hamilton, following a record breaking 215 strong field of competitors this year. Hamilton has historically produced the biggest national championships fields over a 25-year period, which should once again be the case in 2028. From there, 2029 will head to the new Colin Dale Raceway in Auckland, which incredibly will make the first time in 25 years that a National Sprint Championship has been held in New Zealand’s largest city.

The New Zealand Karting Grand Prix (previously known as CIK Trophy) will continue its transition throughout different venues, with the goal to continue to build its status as a significant championship. Auckland and Wellington will host in 2028 and 2029 respectively, marking five different venues in five years for the event.

KartSport Dunedin will host the 2028 South Island Championship, with the 2029 edition TBC later following further discussions with venues. Equally, the North Island Championship should see strong events in both Manawatu and Hamilton.

The National Schools Championship, which rotates between the North and South each year, will see talents on display at both Nelson and Taranaki. For Taranaki, it’s a welcomed return to hosting a KartSport New Zealand major event.

The National Endurance Championship will be hosted for the second time by KartSport Marlborough in 2028, with the 2029 event also being confirmed at a later date.

For this first time KartSport New Zealand affiliated clubs and competitors now have the chance to plan ahead well into the future. For clubs, locking in these championship events will help towards stabilizing committees, attracting new members and justifying forward investment in their venues.

It is expected that 2030 events will be allocated late in 2026, with this pattern continuing in the future to keep the calendar three years ahead.
