New Zealand SuperKart Champs - July 20th/21st 2024

The New Zealand SuperKart Champs being held at the Manfeild Circuit Chris Amon on the weekend of July 20th and 21st are shaping up to be an epic Trans-Tasman battle! Our own local heroes will be slugging it out with Lucas Quattrocchi from Melbourne in the Rotax Light Class and Colin McIntyre also from Melbourne in the Rotax Heavy Class. Quattrocchi is the current Australian number 2 in his class and McIntyre is the reigning Rotax Heavy Australian Champion. Tyler Edney our current Rotax Light class runner up will be looking to defeat Quattrocchi on home soil after finishing behind him at the recent Australian SuperKart Champs. Also expect a good battle between our reigning Rotax Heavy Champion Ryan Urban (also competing in the International class over the weekend) and Colin McIntyre with Shannon Noble (2NZ) who also recently competed in Australia at the SuperKart Champs expected to be right in the mix as well. These karts will be reaching speeds of nearly 160kph and provide a big adrenaline rush to those that have stepped up from traditional sprint karting using the same machines after very little modification.

In the International class, multi time National Champion Ryan Urban will be looking to defend his title with strong completion expected from Andrew Hall and recently re-elected SuperKart Drivers Club President Tony Bowden. Stalwart Teddy Bassick will be in the mix with Kim Stevens and an ever improving Carl “Bread bag” Hanson looking for a good result at his first New Zealand Champs in this class. This class always thrills the crowds with top speeds in excess of 230kph and lap times that eclipse nearly every class of cars that race in New Zealand.

The KZ2 class will be as competitive as ever with Daryl Currie, Zane Hills, Mitch Frazer, Lawrence Wright, Peter Dicks, Mathew Tremain Hooper and Todd Jolly some of the ones to watch out for. These 6 speed rocket ships, easily converted from sprint karts will be travelling at over 190kpm at the meeting and will be sure to provide some close and exciting competition over the weekends racing.

Relative newcomer to the DD2 class, Matt McBride has shown some strong form at recent outings and will be expecting a good result. In round 1 of the club champs he forgot to attach a transponder to his kart which ultimately cost him the overall win, hopefully he will be more focused at this meeting and can show his true potential! But he can expect strong competition from Lee Sefton the current New Zealand Champion, Craig Rowe, Clint Fell, Steven Krugel, Chris Colman, Craig Cook and his wife Haylee McBride.
